Both, brass and stainless steel versions can be used with oxidizing, inert, and reducing gases, wet and dry. For more corrosive gases such as H₂S and NH₃ only the stainless steel version can be used.

Use of corrosive gases may cause corrosion of the base unit mini-contacts, but they can be replaced. Electrode contacts can be contaminated or destroyed, so they are considered as consumables. Spare parts are for some of the systems supplied in order to increase the life-time of the electrode contacts. We do not recommend feeding NH₃ in the split base unit version due to fast corrosion of the heated gas lines.
